John Paul Abellera took up BA Communications and Media Studies and BS Business Management, Major in Marketing and Sales at San Beda College-Alabang. His works have been published in The Philippine Star, The Manila Times, Literary Apprentice, Sip and Kuwaderno. He currently teaches at San Beda College-Alabang, and works for ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. (Star Cinema), for which he has co-written the screenplay of D' Anothers, Dubai, All About Love, Agent X44, Paano Kita Iibigin, Villa Estrella,  Hair is your moment and Babe, I Love You, and the story of Close To You. He is a three-time FAMAS nominee, and a Catholic Mass Media Award and Maria Clara Award winner.

Leche Flan

When I was younger, my family often had Sunday lunch at Barrio Fiesta. After eating rounds of kare-kare and grilled catfish, we would not leave the restaurant without tasting its famous leche flan. This Filipino custard would easily melt in our mouths, giving our taste buds a truly satisfying experience. Based on my research, the leche flan had its origins from the Spaniards who colonized the Philippines. However, the Filipinos were able to improve the original Spanish dessert and made it their own. My family certainly made the leche flan an integral part of the its culinary tradition. Ah, if only my life would remain as sweet as the days of my youth and endless llaneras of leche flan!
